Savannah's Birth Story
My due date was February 6th, but my baby made his arrival at 42 weeks and 1 day (February 22nd). I had planned a home birth supported by my midwives and doula, and we tried every natural method to encourage labor—herbs, pumping, yoga, curb walking, membrane sweeps, and even castor oil. Despite all efforts, I had no signs of labor and was barely dilated.
At 42 weeks, I made the difficult decision to transfer to the hospital for an induction. I was still hopeful for an unmedicated birth, but after hours of intense Pitocin contractions, stalling at 6 cm for over 5 hours, and days without rest, I chose to get an epidural. Unfortunately, my baby began having decelerations, and Pitocin had to be stopped.
By the next morning, we faced the choice to restart Pitocin or move forward with a C-section. I chose the C-section, prioritizing my baby’s safety. On February 22nd, he was born perfectly healthy. While my birth didn’t go as planned, I was deeply supported every step of the way by my incredible midwives and doula. Their presence helped me make empowered decisions, and in the end, I’m grateful for a safe delivery and a healthy baby.
